The Zulu people belong to the Bahntu. Calling themselves ‘the people of the heavens' they were the largest ethical group in South Africa. Around 22 percent of all South Africans belong to them. Their history, culture and language is very similar to that of the Xhosa, who also belong to the Bahntu. The distinction refers to the geographical difference at the time of colonization. Today the language isiZulu is one of eleven official languages in South Africa.
